Accurately modelling natural ventilation is a challenging yet crucial task for meaningful simulation results. In this lesson, you will learn how to correctly represent natural ventilation scenarios in IDA ICE and understand the models used to calculate air exchange. You will discover how to simulate window ventilation and cross-ventilation, how to model hybrid ventilation combining mechanical and natural ventilation, and how to implement effective night cooling strategies.
One major advantage of IDA ICE is that it automatically generates an air node network in the background to realistically depict complex airflow paths. In this lesson, you will learn which building components and elements can be “opened” in your model, how leaks differ from open doors, and what is important to consider when modelling natural ventilation. This will enable you to conduct realistic and reliable simulations to fully evaluate and utilise the potential of natural ventilation in your projects.
